At lunch yesterday some of my coworkers were talking about how Sandy would be good for the economy. I told them about the Broken Window Fallacy. One of my colleagues, a lawyer, said she believed it was a net loss on an individual basis, but would be a net gain on a larger scale. I said to her, sarcastically, “Oh, it’s a loss for every individual, but we’ll make it up on volume.”
