Wristwatch Updates: Chopard LUC 3C Tourbillon, Project 99, & Much More!

Read about Project 99 — The Race to Develop the  World’s First Automatic Chronograph.  Do you like Double Red Sea Dwellers?

I REALLY like these Helson Dive watches.

DO NOT MISS the Chopard LUC 3C Tourbillon – The First Triple Certified Timepiece.

This Seagull chrono is a beauty (another look). As is the Zenith Elite Ultra Thin. Some great pics in this Grand Seiko SBGW0001 review.

Be sure to check out the vintage Heuer Carrera. And I still love the Hamilton Pan Europ chronograph.

Bell & Ross WW1-92 Military & Heritage Watches: Rather than looking like wrist watch versions of pocket watches (like the other WW1) pieces, these are early aviator style and look like something off the first airplane dashboards. Though the cases of all the WW1 watches are the same. The WW1-92 watches come in 45mm wide steel cases with one being PVD coated. (pic via aBlogToRead)

Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Automatic reviewed – Monochrome Watches: This year Montblanc celebrates the 190th anniversary of the chronograph with an anniversary edition of the Nicolas Rieussec. Monochrome had the chance to wear a Nicolas Rieussec Automatic for some weeks and brings you a full review with live photos.

Rolex – An Underwater Treasure: In late 2010, I was lucky enough to buy a Submariner 5514 from the original owner. Being able to meet the first owner of such a watch, to discuss with him during several hours and getting full documentation is really a rare experience for someone who is interested in the history of Rolex and in the extreme use of their vintahe sports models. In the 1970’s, the man has worked as a crane operator and diver for the French companies Foramer, GTM Entrepose and E.T.P.M. (Entreprise de Travaux Publics Multiples), that used to install pipelines all over the world for the oil companies

Bulova Accutron Sir Richard Branson Limited Edition Watch – Perpetuelle: In March 2011, Bulova announced the appointment of Sir Richard Branson, Founder of Virgin Group, as the brand ambassador for Bulova Accutron; this week, Bulova announced the Bulova Accutron “Sir Richard Branson” Limited Edition Watch. Only 500 of the new Bulova Accutron Sir Richard Branson Limited Edition Watches will be made, each watch individually numbered.

Horological Meandering – A review of the outrageous Graham Chronofighter Oversize Diver | -: The Chronofighter has long been a favourite of mine, precisely because of the lever. Shortly after it was introduced in 2003 I purchased one, before trading it for another watch, as is symptomatic when ambition exceeds income. Regret soon set in and I bought another one, but the needs of a growing collection required me to sell it – regret set in again.

Brad Pitt’s Watch in Moneyball — TAG Heuer Kirium – On The Dash: Watch collectors are different. While most people watch movies for entertainment, for escape, or even for information, a “watch guy” may watch an entire movie for the sake of identifying the various watches worn by members of the cast. Of course there are the famous ones, the watches worn by James Bond, Sylvester Stallone and the high-profile Hollywood ambassadors, but the “sightings” are also fun . . . spotting Lady Gaga in her Casio Baby-G or Jerry Seinfeld in a vintage Heuer Autavia (in place of his usual Breitling).

Watches by SJX: The Chopard LUC Triple Certification “3C” Tourbillon: The name of the watch is derived from the triple certificates it carries, the Geneva Seal, Fleurier Quality Foundation (FQF) and COSC. There is some redundancy between the certifications. While the Geneva Seal and COSC are complementary, the FQF certification overlaps with the other two labels.

Watch Review: RedSea Holystone PVD – Watch Reviews: – General Watch Discussions – Watch Freeks: The Creation Of RedSea – It is amazing how much you find out you have in common with someone when you start to discuss watches. For instance, both of us (Troy and Josh) are not only long time watch collectors who admire the art of horology, but we both have an large entrepreneurial drive and coincidentally were born on the same day and year. Ironically we didn’t cross paths in life until a few years ago… when we had our first conversation around dive watches.

The new Rolex Explorer II done right, courtesy of HTE: The new Rolex Explorer I has been the inspiration for the HTE 39mm, and is dedicated to the first & second generation to the top as Sir Edmund Hillary and Peter Hillary were the first father/son duo to reach the top of Mount Everest.

BOOK REVIEW: Richard Crosthwaite’s “Heuer Monaco – Design Classic” – HODINKEE: Crosthwaite’s book delves into deep detail as to all of the minor details of the vintage Monacos. For instance, although only about 5,000 Monacos were made across all dials and movements between 1969 and the 1970s, many have been damaged due to issues with the seal by the crystal warping, leading to damage on the dials.
