I recently saw a review of this classic ink and decided to get a bottle. Not only had I never tried this color (British Racing Green), I don’t think I’ve ever owned any Montblanc ink. And while MB may not offer a huge choice of colors, the ones they do have are supposed to be consistent and reliable in most pens. So last week I ordered a bottle from Swisher Pens and it arrived a few days later. Note: you can also order these inks (bottle or cartridges) directly from Montblanc.
Besides Lamy, I think Montblanc offers the nicest looking and most useful bottle designs and shapes. In addition to being quite functional, the bottles are also designed well and aesthetically pleasing, at least imho.
In short, the ink is on the slightly “thin” side compared to heavily saturated inks from sources such as Noodler’s and Private Reserve. In the last couple years I’ve gotten away from the saturated brands and moved back to Lamy, J. Herbin, and no apparently, Montblanc. You can also see various shades come through depending on the stroke and, nib, and paper. There are also some hints of black in there at times.
Below are some quick & dirty shots of the bottle, ink, and writing in an orange Rhodia Webnotebook (which I reviewed earlier).
